Prosper Dentist Discusses Knocked-Out Teeth

Knocked Out Teeth | Prosper TX

Have you ever seen a hockey player smile? It used to be, and still sometimes is the case, that a hockey player’s mouth is a disaster zone. With the fights and the constant danger of a puck coming up too high, teeth are in serious danger at a hockey rink. All it takes is one player sliding down to block a shot that is slightly off target for teeth to scatter across the ice like Chiclets. Thankfully, most people’s teeth are not in quite so much danger. Yet a dental emergency can occur at any time. A fall, an unexpected blow, or an unseen collision can dislodge a tooth and trigger a dental emergency. Your Prosper dentist, Dr. Vimal Patel, explains the proper steps to take after a tooth has been knocked out.

Reacting to a Knocked-Out Tooth

Once your tooth has been dislodged, your first concern will likely be the blood that is sure to follow. While stopping the flow of blood is important, almost equally important is your search for and care of the missing tooth. To deal with the bleeding quickly, find a cloth that you can bite down on to stem the flow of blood. Next, begin your search for the missing tooth. If you are able to find it, be sure that you do not handle it by the root. Then rinse it off with water. You now have two options: you can either replace the tooth in its socket or you can place it in a glass of milk. Putting the tooth in milk can help to preserve it while you seek dental assistance. Finally, as with any dental emergency, call your Prosper emergency dentist, Dr. Patel.
